I presume you want to backup the contents of your phone to your backup partner using Cucku, but not the other way around, right? Have you considered using some sort of software which will backup your phone to a file or directory on your PC (I would think your phone probably came with something like that, and if not, you should be able to download something from the phone's 'app store'(, then using Cucku on your PC to backup that file/directory? Not saying that an additional app might not be useful, but in the meantime, seems like that should work?
BTW, what kind of smartphone do you have? Apple, Blackberry, Android, Palm, Palm Pre, Windows Mobile? There's so many different types of smartphones, the Cucku devs probably can't target them all (at least, not immediately, maybe eventually).
